Despite already having established Super Bowl-winning placekicker Adam Vinatieri, Gould was hired as a free agent by the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots before the 2005 NFL preseason after going undrafted in that year’s NFL Draft. Gould was released from the Patriots during the preseason and signed with the Baltimore Ravens before being released three weeks later. Then, in Mill Hall, Pennsylvania, he discovered a construction job with M&R Contracting.
